Itaewon (μ΄νμ) β Yongsan-gu
The largest expatriate community in Korea. Located near Yongsan Garrison and designated as a special tourist zone. Famous for diverse shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, and authentic ethnic food (American, French, Pakistani, Indian, Egyptian, Middle Eastern). The residential area of choice for many foreigners working in Korea.
Hannam-dong (νλ¨λ) β Yongsan-gu
Home to many foreign diplomatic missions. Contains the exclusive UN Village and an ordinary residential district with fancy villas and Western-style houses. Primarily residential, with cultural and business facilities nearby in Itaewon.
Ichon-dong (μ΄μ΄λ)
Widely recognized as a predominantly Japanese residential district. Once home to embassy staffers and trading company employees. Authentic Japanese restaurants and business signs are common. Located near Yongsan Park for a pleasant residential experience.
Seodaemun-gu (μλ문ꡬ)
Popular among foreign students and professors due to nearby universities (Ewha Womans University, Hongik University, Yonsei University). Many officetels and one-room studios popular with students and singles. Surrounded by mountains for weekend hiking.
Gangnam / Seocho-gu (κ°λ¨/μμ΄κ΅¬)
Representative shopping and business districts. Gangnam features KITA, COEX, Seoul Arts Center, trendy fashion streets, and elite schools. Popular but expensive with heavy traffic. Seocho-gu's Seorae Village (Banpo-dong) is known as the French community.
Pyeongchang-dong / Seongbuk-dong
Expensive villas and luxury houses on hills with scenic city views. Quiet residential atmosphere surrounded by mountains. Art centers and galleries abound.
